ANKARA (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan on Monday asked Luxembourg, a founding member of European Union (EU), to continue to support Turkey's EU bid.

Speaking at a joint press conference after his official talks with visiting Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn here, Babacan vowed to boost relations between his country and Luxembourg.
""Economic relations between Turkey and Luxembourg, which is one of the world's leading banking and financial hub, are important. We will do our best to improve and deepen relations with Luxembourg in the future,"" Babacan said.
For his part, Asselborn said Luxembourg's economy minister would visit Turkey later this year to boost economic relations between the two countries.
Regarding Turkey's EU bid, Asselborn said that European politicians should support Turkey on its way to the bloc. However, he said Turkish government should continue reforms.
Asselborn also said that European politicians should help resolve Cyprus problem and that 2008 could be an opportunity to settle the issue. Turkey's EU membership talks have been partly frozen by its refusal to open ports and airports to Greek Cypriot traffic.
